Construction

The seat rails are attached to the legs by mortise and tenon joints. A brace, now replaced, whose shadow remains, once joined the front and rear rails by a dovetail joint. The rear stiles are joined to the crest rail and arms by a mortise and tenon joint, reinforced by a large rosehead nail. A chestnut board fills the area beneath the upholstery, between the rear stiles, the arms, the arm supports, and the seat rail. Examined by P.E. Kane, B. W. Colman, October 19, 2009; notes compiled by T. B. Lloyd.
