Construction

The oblong, single-board top with bowed ends is flanked by half-round, single-board leaves, all with quarter round joints between them. The top is secured to the frame, in part, by transverse braces which span between the long rails near the short, flat-arched rails, and by wood pins visible on its upper surface. The inner rails join the short rails in dovetail joints. The outer rails are tenoned and wood-pinned to the stationary and rabbeted swing legs, which are ring-turned, straight, and tapered, ending in cup-turned feet. Notes compiled by T. B. Lloyd from photographs supplied by Carlsen Gallery.
