Construction

The top is fastened to the frame with screws in pockets on the curved rail and with glue blocks at the rear rail. The curved rail is comprised of four sections dovetailed together. Both rear legs swing; the hinged rails have two square teeth and are fastened to the stationary rail with cut nails. Two dovetails fasten the ends of the stationary rail to the side rails. The stationary rail is fastened to the rear legs with double-shouldered tenons. The tops of the hinged legs are not rabetted to fit under the corners of the side rails. Thin pieces of mahogany are nailed to the underside of the curved rail to finish the edge of the mahogany veneer. Examined by P. E. Kane and E. M. Orr, January 20, 2011.
