ConstructionThe oblong, two-board top has a rounded, scalloped edge and half-round corners. Its boards meet in wood-pinned spline joints near the mid-point of the short rails below. They are joined to the frame by wood pins at each leg, and by screws in a transverse cleat passing through the tops of the long rails ? two screws near the joint between the two boards, and two each (one missing) in the tapered ends of the cleat outside the long rails. There are two small, empty nail holes near the center of the cleat where the two boards of the top meet. The flat-arched rails are tenoned and twice-wood-pinned to the rectangular block atop the turned, tapering, straight legs, which end in outset pad feet. Notes compiled by T. B. Lloyd from photographs provided by Dana E. Tillou. Inscriptions: Octagonal paper label, underside of top outside short rail, upon which is written, in ink, "Sally D. Snow". |
