ConstructionThe oblong, rectangular, single-board top has a square edge and is flanked by similarly configured leaves. The joint between them is quarter round. The swinging portions of the outer rails move by means of seven-knuckled carved wood hinges. The end of the inner rails beside each swinging leg meets its flat-skirted short rail in dovetail joints, having thick-necked pins, with half-pins above and below. The round legs are straight; their outset feet feature slender, undercut knuckles, and undercut talons grasping a spherical ball. Notes compiled by T.B. Lloyd from photographs supplied by Brunk Auctions. |
