Construction

The rails have double-shouldered tenons where they join the legs; the tenons are offset to the outside and on the side and front rails are the full height of the rabbet; two pins secure the joints of the side rails to the rear stiles and one to each of the front legs; one pin secures the rear rail to each of the the rear stiles; two pins secure the joint of the front rail with each of the front legs; the undersides of the rails have rasp marks; the corner blocks are not original; the stretchers have double-shouldered tenons and the side stretchers are pinned at the back, but not at the front; the inner curves of the stiles are laminated; the splat shoe is attached with brads and does not overhang the rear rail; tenons shows slightly where the crest rail joins the stiles; pins show on the front and back; the splat has two tenons into the crest.
