Construction

The hood roof consists of five boards attached to the four battens underneath, to an arched fascia, and to the canted, single-board scalloped sides, and the canted, single-board back. The sides, back and arched-top end boards are joined to each other with finely cut, narrow-necked dovetails. The single board base has a mitered, applied, molded edge and is attached to the walls above with screws and brads. The scalloped rockers at either end of the baseboard are joined by a brace, revealed on their outside faces by small rectangular tenons and scribe lines. Examined by P.E. Kane, March 4, 2011; notes compiled by T.B. Lloyd.
