ConstructionThe rectangular, single-board top has an applied, molded edge nailed to it with brads. The underside of the top is routed at the perimeter to receive the skirt rails, which are joined to the legs with mortise and tenon joints, exhibiting no pins at the corners. The connections of legs and rails are reinforced at each interior corner by two vertical pentagonal glue blocks. Applied to the rails with wood pins and brads is a quarter round molding whose underside is flush with the bottom of the rails. The cabriole legs are square in section, and have angular knees and shod slipper feet. Examined by P.E. Kane, August 6, 2010; notes compiled by T.B. Lloyd. |
