Construction

The single-board, half-round top has a square, double-line inlaid edge and is joined to its conformingly shaped, single-board lower leaf by brass hinges set into their respective edges? rear outside corners. There are two leaf-edge mortise and tenon joints. The lower leaf is fixed to its conformingly shaped frame by (among other means) three screw pockets, one each in the inside faces of the three, thrice-laminated sections of the half-round, line-inlaid front rail. There are rosehead nails in the bottom faces of the lowest laminations. A portion of the proper right exterior rear rail swings by means of a round, five-knuckled carved wood hinge. The proper left exterior rear rail is stationary. Photographs courtesy of CRN Auctions, Inc., Cambridge, Mass.; notes compiled by T.B. Lloyd.
