James L. Hazard and his brother George A. Hazard announced in 1856 that they had taken over Hazard’s Cabinet & House-Furnishing Ware-House, located at 23 Church Street in Newport, after the death of their brother Simeon Hazard. James L. Hazard was identified as a furniture dealer in the 1880 Federal Census.(1) He died in 1897 and is buried in the Island Cemetery, Newport.(2)
